Work Product (Artifact): Solution Architecture Document (SAD)

The Solution Architecture Document provides a comprehensive architectural overview of the proposed solution to a problem. It presents a number of different architectural views to depict various aspects of the solution, with the intent to convey a high level overview of the technical environment of the solution as well as its place and interaction with other systems in the enterprise.

The document's primary purpose is to provide a platform for detailed design activities by technical analysts and developers. However, it can be consumed in various levels of detail by the business community as a complement to functional requirements and specifications documents.
