      Main Description
A definition of the current process by collaborating with Subject Matter Experts and the Domain Owner. An interview with the Subject Matter Experts will gain an understanding of what the process is, what roles are involved with it, and any outputs that it produces.
      Steps
      Research existing documents
Use documents previously developed by the current or former teams to decribe what they do. Documentation efforts may be in the form of Microsoft Word or PowerPoint files, or in Visio swimlane diagrams. Processes may have ben described in hand-written notes.
      Interview Subject Matter Experts
Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) know what they do day-in and day-out. It is their job and no one knows it better than the SME. Rely on SMEs to provide the most up-to-date processes descriptions of the current process.
      Draft current process
Write down the process as it was recorded, heard and understood. It may be necessary to use non-technical, or informal language until the process is fully understood and agreed by the domain owner.
Review process with Subject Matter Experts
The drafted process will be reviewed with the SMEs to ensure what was drafted is what was researched to ensure accuracy. Complex processes require more SME reviews, but it's better to get it right at the beginning of the development cycle.
